14 DAY TRIAL // Age of Empires: Castle Siege was a Windows Phone affair until recently, as Microsoft has just released its popular strategy game on iOS.
The game benefited from a soft launch back in May, but it was only available in Canada and possibly a few other countries. However, beginning this week, Age of Empires: Castle Siege is available for download to everyone with a compatible iOS device.
Here is a short description of the game: “Age of Empires: Castle Siege invites you to guide your empire through the Medieval Era and make your mark on history. Choose from one of several civilizations, including the Britons, Teutons, and Kievan Rus.
“Upgrade your keep, fortify your walls, and garrison defensive troops to protect yourself from marauders. Then, train an army to raid other cities, and command them in battle to dismantle your opponents’ defenses.”
The game features cross-platform play
It sounds a little bit like a Clash of Clans type of game, but Microsoft kept the Age of Empires recipe alive in this mobile title, while adding new features specifically designed for the mobile gameplay environment.
So, in Age of Empires: Castle Siege you will be able to research technology, recruit a wide range of heroes who were famous throughout the history, including Saladin, Richard the Lionheart, and Joan of Arc.
According to Microsoft, players will be able to live through famous battles in the history, but also earn achievements and top the ranks of the leaderboards.
It's also worth mentioning that the game is developed by Smoking Gun Interactive studio, which brought the Windows Phone title to iOS platform.
Curious enough, Microsoft does not seem to be interested in releasing an Android version yet, or at least the company did not share any details on the matter for the moment.
You can now download Age of Empires: Castle Siege for iOS for free via App Store. The game should be fully compatible with all devices running iOS 7.0 or later.
