We're not sure how many people still play Age of Conan, the MMORPG launched 12 years ago, but we do know that good things are coming for fans of the universe. Funcom announced recently that the game has received the biggest update since its release. In fact, the update is so important that it's even got its own name – Onslaught.

After breaking sales records back in 2008, Age of Conan is supposedly being revived by developers. For those who don't know, Age of Conan become free-to-play in 2011 and even got rebranded to Age of Conan: Unchained during the same year.

It looks like the Funcom has seen the potential of the franchise and the number of players probably justified the amount of resources spent during all this time. Age of Conan continued to be supported by Funcom with new areas, dungeons, and massive improvements to gameplay, just to keep players interested in the title.

Last week, Funcom announced the release of Onslaught, the biggest Age of Conan update in years. If you're a fan of the MMORPG or a newcomer, you'll be pleased to know that Onslaught introduces a new game area based on Robert E. Howard’s Black Colossus (1933), one of the original short stories featuring Conan the Barbarian.

In this new area, players will be faced with a new threat, as the ancient wizard Thugra Khotan has awoken after thousands of years and is seeking to fulfill his ambition of world domination. You'll have to keep ground against waves of ferocious armies, which will charge at you on the steps of the great Ivory Dome of Kutchemes.

In addition to the new game area, the update introduces a new game mode, new quests, and a selection of new and exquisite weapons and armor, including powerful starmetal weapons and The Thugra Khotan Vanity Armor.
