Lava's Iris Atom series has just become larger with the addition of yet another Android affordable smartphone, the Iris Atom 3.

The sequel to the Iris Atom 2X, the new smartphone has one selling point that could appeal to customers, and that's the fact that it comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box.

According to a new report, Lava Iris Atom 3 will soon be available through all major online and retail stores across India for only Rs 4,899 ($75 / €65) outright. Customers will be able to choose between either black or white color versions.

As mentioned earlier, the Iris Atom 3 is a little bit short on specs, as the phone comes with only 512MB of RAM. Since most of entry-level Android smartphones now pack at least 1GB of RAM, many customers will probably avoid the Lava Iris Atom 3, even if it comes with Lollipop.

Totally unimpressive due to low specs packed inside

Apart from that, the Iris Atom 3 sports a modest 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 854 x 480 pixels resolution.

When it comes to hardware, Lava's affordable smartphone is as disappointing. The Iris Atom 3 comes equipped with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, probably provided by MediaTek.

The smartphone packs 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. Luckily, the handset comes with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Naturally, the phone does not offer 4G LTE support, but it comes with 3G and dual-SIM features, along with other connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0, FM Radio, 3.5mm audio jack, and GPS with AGPS support.

Last but not least, Lava Iris Atom 3 features a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 2,000 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.
