Adobe is one of the companies working around the clock to optimize their software for the new Apple Silicon, and now another beta is available for testing.

Premiere Pro is the next big product to run natively on the M1 processor, but until the work in this regard is finalized, customers can just give it a try to the very first beta that is available today.

Adobe explains that the complexity of its software forces the company to roll out Apple Silicon compatibility in phases, so it’ll take a while until the work in this regard is complete.

However, customers can already try out the core editing functions, as well as a series of other extras in this early build of the application.

“The first public Beta includes all the core editing functions and workflows like color, graphics, and audio, as well as features like Productions, and multicam. We prioritized support for the most widely used codecs, like H.264, HEVC, and ProRes. The average editor is likely to see very little difference from the Intel version, but there are some limitations which are listed below. Please check back on this thread for more updates as we add more functionality,” Adobe explains.

Several known issues

While the work on bringing Premiere Pro to Apple Silicon is still underway, the current beta comes with a series of known issues, including a full crash that can happen on launch if the application is set to Chinese localization.

Adobe also says there are several features still not working, such as the Learn Panel and the in-app tutorials, the support for control surfaces, and the Legacy Titler.

There’s no ETA as to when Premiere Pro should be ready for Apple Silicon, but Adobe is actively working on it, so expect more news in this regard rather sooner than later.
