Developer manages to run Photoshop on Lumia 950 XL

We all know what happened with Windows 10 Mobile, and while the platform is dead already, the existing Windows phones are still worthy tools that can be used for a series of experiments.

One developer who goes by the name of @imbushuo on Twitter, for example, uses a Lumia 950 XL for various Windows projects, and his latest includes running Adobe Photoshop on this Windows phone.

And a screenshot that he published on Twitter a few days ago shows this is actually possible, with landscape mode also offered, and this makes the software look pretty good on the large screen available on the Lumia 950 XL.

Is it usable? I really doubt it, especially because working with advanced software like Adobe Photoshop requires a large screen that allows for refinements in the smallest areas.

But how is this possible after all?

It’s all thanks to Windows 10 ARM, an operating system that Microsoft has released for ARM-based devices. And given Adobe has recently discovered that ARM is worth investing in (after Apple officially announced Apple Silicon earlier this month), a beta version of Photoshop for this processor is now available for download.

Lumia 950 XL comes with an ARM chip, and therefore it can run Windows 10 ARM with a series of tweaks. What this means is that whoever installs this OS version on their Windows phones can then run any ARM-optimized application, including this recently-released beta of Photoshop.

Of course, this is just too little, too late, so even if Photoshop is now on a Lumia 950 XL, it doesn’t mean anything for the Windows 10 Mobile platform as a whole. It’s an experiment and nothing more, as Microsoft’s mobile operating system is dead and won’t be coming back anytime soon.
