New ad-blocker released for Microsoft’s new browser

Adguard, which is currently one of the most popular ad-blockers available on the market today, is adding support for Microsoft Edge browser, the new default in Windows 10 replacing the aging Internet Explorer.

Adguard for Microsoft Edge can obviously be downloaded free of charge from the Windows Store, and it works just like all the other extensions: you simply click the install button and when the process comes to an end, you should see a notification in Edge browser to enable it.

The extension brings on Edge the behavior it features on the other browsers, so it can block any elements on a website, but at the same time, it also includes options to disable ad filters for any specific page.

There are several settings that allow you to customize filters, so you can enable search ads and protection against spyware or other trackers, remove social buttons, and much more.

Adguard for Microsoft Edge only works in normal tabs, and InPrivate mode it is not yet supported because Edge automatically disables extensions when such tabs are launched.

Microsoft helped develop the extension

Adguard developers say they have been working closely with Microsoft to bring the extension in the Windows Store, and recommend others to do the same and launch their browser add-ons and applications on Windows 10.

“We want to thank Microsoft for making it possible to provide Edge users with Adguard protection! Particularly we want to thank the Edge team, it was great and easy to work with them. They provided us an invaluable assistance, responding quickly to changes during development. We call on all developers to follow us and create more cool extensions for Windows Store!” the Adguard team says.

Adguard’s filters contain more than 5,000 entries, the company says, so in addition to standard banner ads that you find online, it can also block video ads, even those on YouTube, floating ads, popups, spyware, adware, dialer installers, and third-party tracking systems.

Only Windows 10 users running the Anniversary Update can install Adguard, as older versions of the OS do not feature extension support in Microsoft Edge.
