Cyberpunk seems to have been the favorite setting for many game developers since CD Projekt RED announced their upcoming triple A franchise, Cyberpunk 2077. Today, we're going to talk about yet another game that chose a cyberpunk setting: The Ascent.

Developed by Neon Giant, The Ascent takes place in a self-contained metropolis filled to the brim with strange and wonderful creatures from across the galaxy. Just like in every other cyberpunk game, you'll need to stop rival corporations and crime syndicates by any means necessary.

The Ascent is an action RPG that lets players explore a range of districts, from the deep slums to higher luxury spheres, loot enemies for upgraded gear, and customize their characters' bodies with a range of cyberware.

More importantly, The Ascent can be played either solo or with up to four players in local or online co-op. The name of the game comes from The Ascent Group, the biggest of all the mega-corporations on planet Veles.

For whatever reasons, The Ascent Group shuts down causing the city's automated security systems to go haywire and put the entire world at risk. Your job is to uncover what's really happening before it's too late.

Developer Neon Giant may be an indie studio in terms of size (with just 11 people in total) but they’re definitely AAA at heart. From brutal FPSs like Wolfenstein to first-party classics like Gears of War, the team has a huge amount of experience squeezing every drop they can from the Unreal Engine,” said Jack Gosling, Senior Digital Marketing Manager at Curve Digital.

The folks at Neon Giant promise a game that's quite impressive when it comes to visuals. Also, one of the things that sets The Ascent apart from other cyberpunk-oriented games is the way it blends these elements with more traditional sci-fi bits.

Although The Ascent was introduced at Microsoft's Inside Xbox event, the game will be released for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X later this year.
