Acer is prepping new Chromebook models for 2015

Acer is one of those brand vendors that has been struggling to keep afloat in the competitive tech market, but last year, the company actually made a profit from its Chromebook and tablet sales. So it’s no wonder that Acer is looking to develop more Chromebook models this year.

The device maker already introduced the Chromebook 15 not so long ago, which runs on the Core i5 Broadwell platform and can be thought of as a cheaper Chromebook Pixel 2 alternative. Now, according to a new report coming out of WinFuture, Acer is also prepping the C738T model, which unlike the majority of Chromebooks available on the market, will take advantage of a 360 degree hinge.

This means the device will work akin to the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, which lets users push the screen back all the way, so they can hold the computer like a tablet.

The first Braswell Chromebooks will come from Acer

On top of that, there’s another reason why the Acer C738T Chromebook might prove interesting to customers. If we’re to believe the sources, the new laptop will be one of the first models to ship with Intel’s new Braswell chip.

Braswell is the more powerful version of the Intel Atom Cherry Trail chips that were used to pump juice in tablets and low-power laptops and convertibles.

Specifically, the Acer C738T should make it out with an Intel Celeron N3150 processor under the hood, which is a 6-watt, quad-core chip equipped with Intel HD graphics.

The current report also reveals the full extent of the specifications we should expect to see the Chromebook arrive with. The C738T is poised to come out with an 11.6-inch IPS display with the average 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, 4GB of RAM, 16GB of eMMC storage, and dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, plus a 720p camera.

Acer also throws in HDMI output, a SD card for memory expansion, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports. Judging by the specifications outlined above, the laptop should make it out into the world with a relatively decent price tag.

If Acer is not the company you’d like to be doing business with, but you still crave a 2-in-1 design, you should know there are a few alternatives on the market, like the ASUS Chromebook Flip or the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 11e.
