If you want Mariah Carey to perform for you on the night the ball drops, on New Year’s Eve, you have to have really deep pockets because she doesn’t come cheap. The diva has just signed an incredibly lucrative deal for a one-off performance, TMZ reports.

Then again, Mariah is no regular pop star, so it was to be expected for her to charge a fortune (no, really) to perform on this special night.

When the world rings in the New Year, Mariah will be at Copacabana in Brazil, where she’ll be performing live for a paycheck estimated at between $2 million and $5 million (€1.7 million and €4.4 million).

All in a day’s work.

Mariah has never made a secret of how much money she makes, though she always stopped short of naming actual figures. She made it clear that she charged producers a lot to be on American Idol, even though she admitted she came to regret her decision because it wasn’t what she expected.

She also hinted that she made a fortune off her Las Vegas residency, which turned out to be a sold-out event, despite initial negative reviews.

Mariah might not be selling albums at the rate she did back in the day, but when it comes to live performing, she clearly still delivers if she’s able to charge this kind of money.
