Zune's evolution on the market has stabilized. And all in all, it has been a respectable debut for the Microsoft digital media player. Before we get down to the hard figures, the Zune device saw its greatest success as an item of novelty, in the first weeks of availability. Following the start, Zune almost fell off the charts, at the debut of the online holiday season, while the Redmond Company admitted that the digital media player is struggling.

Having come as far as number two best selling digital media player on the market, Zune was right on track to becoming number one, as Microsoft Chairman, Bill Gates had commented about the evolution of the company's products.

Zune's market performance has not as yet excluded that possibility, but the device's evolution has stabilized at a level that is comfortable from Apple's point of view. From the dominant position on the market, Apple's perspective was impacted by the consumer demand for Zune only in the first week.

Launched on Novermber 14, Zune's demand was close to the iPod video. So close in fact that the two products were separated only by a few items on Amazon's top 10 best selling electronic products. Statistics reveal that traffic to online Zune product pages increased by 266%.

But as the online shopping holiday season started after Thanksgiving, iPod moved again in the focus of shoppers, while Zune dropped out of sight. At one point, the Zune 30 GB Digital Media Player (Black) almost dropped out of the 100 most popular electronic items list on Amazon.com. Following the Thanksgiving weekend, Zune demand is a forth of that for iPod Nano and more than half that of iPod Video. At the time of this article, Zune was in the 56th place on Amazon.com's list of top selling electronic products.
