Symantec warns that hackers may be very close to adapting the Zotob worm to attack Windows XP.

That means all the systems running pretty much all from Windows 95 to the latest, XP, can welcome "the visitor" unless patched at this particular time.

David Cole, Director for Symantec's Security Response, declared for TechWeb news that a new wave of Zotob attacks might be launched against home users and small-and mid-sized businesses.

And all it takes for that to happen is a determined hacker with some time to "waste" on adding Windows XP capabilities to Zotob.

" Although users shouldn't ignore this risk, there are fewer hosts that fit this profile than fit the original attack", Cole stated, referring to the fact that most of the users have already patched their systems after last week Zotob attacks.

Still, Symantec continues to recommend that users apply the patch to all systems, including all Windows XP and XP SP1 machines.
