The young macaque was born the day after the Princess, folks found Charlotte to be a very befitting name for it

Late last week, on May 2, Prince William and wife Catherine welcomed their second child, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. The day after, on May 3, a cute-looking macaque was born at a zoo in southwestern Japan.

When the time came to find a suitable name for the baby monkey, staff at the Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden had the public pick and choose from a long list of monikers.

When the voting and the counting of the votes were done, the macaque found itself bearing the name Charlotte. Apparently, this moniker became insanely popular only when it was revealed to be the name of the Princess as well.

“The name was publicly solicited and Charlotte suddenly became the most popular choice after the British baby princess’s name was announced,” a zoo official explained.

Sadly, not everybody likes the baby macaque's name

It might be that the baby monkey's name was chosen not by zoo staff but by the public, but as it turns out, the young macaque will most likely get a new identity in the days to come, Mirror tells us.

This is because a great deal of people are complaining about how naming a monkey after Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana is disrespectful - if not downright insulting - to the royal family.

“Since we announced the name we’ve been receiving calls and emails from people mostly complaining that it is rude to British people,” the zoo explained in a statement.

Should they go ahead and actually change the monkey's name, it is unclear what other moniker staff at the Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden might choose to make sure they don't offend anybody.

As for the baby macaque, it doesn't seem to care all that much about trivial matters like how its sharing its name with the Princess might make the royal family feel.

Instead, the young monkey seems more preoccupied with not missing its next meal or nap time.
