After NBC announced last December it would be making a remake of the 1967 best-selling suspense novel “Rosemary's Baby,” it's now being revealed who will be playing the lead role of the mother. Deadline reports that producers have decided to go with “Avatar” actress Zoe Saldana.

NBC is planning to do a four-hour mini-series that will be focusing on Rosemary played by Saldana, as a young wife and mother of two. The original role of Rosemary was played by Mia Farrow in the big screen movie adaptation of the book made by Roman Polanski.

Quinn Taylor, head of NBC's longform had this to say about Saldana: “Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses, and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel.”

Agnieska Holland is billed to take the director's chair and will be working off a script written by Scott Abbott, known for his work on “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge” and James Wong, who has previously worked on “American Horror Story”. The production is set to start filming in Paris, which is a departure from the Polanski version that set in New York.

For Saldana, it will be a departure from her big screen titles, although it's not her first foray into television. She's featured previously as a guest star on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” as well as a recurring role in “Six Degrees.”
