Gone are the days when desktops had unrivaled performances compared to laptops. Now, with the new, energy efficient processors and advanced designs, laptops can easily match and surpass desktops. This is exactly what Evesham is after with the new Zieo N500-HD, their latest notebook.

As expected, it incorporates the latest Santa-Rosa platform (with the P-socket) with one Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor running at 2.2 Ghz. As you know, the Santa-Rosa platform's FSB can work at 800Mhz. The problem is that the two DDR-2 modules top at 667Mhz and this might have a small impact on the Zieo N500-HD's performance. Anyway, each of the two modules has a 1GB capacity, which brings the total capacity to a respectable 2 gigs.

Regarding memory, the new notebook supports the Intel Turbo Memory, which allows you to increase the RAM of your notebook without having to open the chassis. The Intel Turbo Memory card simply slots into the side of the notebook via the express card slot and automatically updates the RAM of your system. Intel says this allows you to enjoy up to 20% faster boot time and up to 2x faster loading of applications & vastly improve run time when multi-tasking.

The video part is not too shabby either, as the Zieo N500-HD works with a GeForce 8600M GT card, boasting an impressive 512MB of memory.

The storage part is ensured by a 160GB SATA drive coming from an unspecified manufacturer, so we'll just have to assume that it's not some cheap unit prone to failure.

The display solution is a 17'' WSXGA X-Bright widescreen monitor, which can be set up to 1680x1050. Connectivity wise, the Zieo N500-HD comes with all the required features, modem, 10/100/1000 LAN, V90 56k modem, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support.

Other features include 3 USB 2.0 ports, Firewire, VGA, Express Card and HDMI ports, built-in card reader (SD/MMC/MS) and a Li-Ion battery, with a quoted life of approximately 2 hours.

If you're looking for a desktop replacement and the Zieo N500-HD tickles your fancy, be prepared to spend close to 1,100 pounds (2,183 dollars) on it.
