14 DAY TRIAL // Zentyal 2.2 has been released. The latest update Linux distro aimed at small businesses brings several enhancements and new features, including better performance, a simpler installation process, better internationalization support and better internet access management tools.
"Your favorite development team proudly presents Zentyal 2.2," the official announcement read.
"Zentyal is a Linux small business server that can act as a Gateway, Unified Threat Manager, Office Server, Infrastructure Manager, Unified Communications Server or a combination of them," it said.
"The development of Zentyal started in 2004 and currently it is an enterprise-level Linux server solution that integrates over 35 open source network management tools in one single technology," it added.
One of the touting points of the latest release is a much more responsive web interface. A complete rewrite of the configuration backend resulted in a snappier UI.
Not only is it faster, it's more friendly as well, the team have optimized the menus and features with an eye on improving usability.
The installation process has been simplified and improved. Users can now select pre-made package profiles as well as individual packages from the same spot.
Zentyal 2.2 also introduces a new module, Captive Portal, which enables admins to control internet access.
It can be configured to only allow authenticated users through as well as to set up a bandwidth allocation limit to each user. There is also the possibility of blocking all advertising from web traffic.
The latest version also brings a unified and integrated interface for configuring both KVM and VirtualBox-based virtual machines.
