Nintendo has shared some light on one of its most popular franchises, The Legend of Zelda, and confirmed that the upcoming full pledged Skyward Sword installment would arrive on the Wii after the Ocarina of Time 3D remake on the 3DS.

Nintendo has a lot of impressive franchises in its portfolio, but seeing as how this is the year when The Legend of Zelda marks its 25th birthday, things are really focused on the fantasy series.

The Japanese company wants to properly honor it, and is preparing two big releases, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld, and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, for the Wii home console.

While we know quite a few details about these games, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has now decided to reveal a few more pieces of information, in regards to the Wii Motion Plus integration in Skyward Sword and just when the title might be released.

"One of the Wii titles scheduled to be launched this year is, as you know, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword," said Iwata. "Last year was the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. This year marks the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda.”

"Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo told me that he had a strong feeling that the new play control realized by Wii MotionPlus, which is now integrated into our Wii Remote as Wii Remote Plus, could significantly expand the comfort of the game play, especially when used in games like The Legend of Zelda."

Seeing as how Skyward Sword is still in development, Iwata confirmed that the game would appear after the remastered Ocarina of Time 3D.

"His team is now entering into the final completion stage of the game. Talking about The Legend of Zelda franchise, what people called a masterpiece in the days of Nintendo 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been in the process of being remade for Nintendo 3DS, and this Nintendo 3DS version is expected to hit the market earlier."

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed that Ocarina of Time 3D would arrive this summer at the earliest, so it's a safe bet that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will arrive for the Wii just in time for the winter holiday season.
