Those of you interested in the budding smartwatch field are most likely familiar with Pebble. The company started off as a Kickstarter project gathering funds and soon managed to achieve great things.

Coming with an ePaper display, extensive battery life and the ability to connect to both Android and iOS devices, it wasn't long before Pebble left the competition trailing.

Compared to offerings coming from tech giants like Samsung, LG or Motorola, Pebble also sells for a super affordable price of $150 / €110.

Nevertheless, for some even this tag might seem like a lot. But not to worry, Pebble fans who don’t like throwing money around have an alternative, in the form of the Zebble smartwatch that costs around 80 bucks, Cnx-Software informs.

If has become customary to see device makers copy iconic products such as the Apple iPad, so why wouldn't that extend to wearables?

The blatantly called Zebble is a Pebble clone that boasts the same ePaper display, a waterproof design and offers a full week of functionality on a single charge.

However, the price reduction comes at a cost. The smartwatch doesn't enjoy the same app ecosystem Pebble has managed to construct around the offering since it launched it.

Being one of the early smartwatch manufacturers, Pebble has managed to attract a number of developers around its platform, so its app store is quite extensive compared to the competition. Users also have the opportunity to customize the way the watch looks and add new features onboard.

Putting that aside, the Zebble is capable of handling your notifications, which is basically what you’d be expecting from a smartwatch. So whenever you get a call or a new message, your wrist will vibrate alerting you of the new event.

On top of that, users can control music playback on the conjoining smartphone, use the find-my-phone function or get informed of the weather conditions. The smartwatch can act as a camera control button and is able to even track your steps while walking or running.

As for specifications, the Zebble comes with a 1.26-inch screen with 144 x 168 pixel resolution and bundles support for Bluetooth 3.0.

The watch can connect to any smartphone that runs Android 4.0 out of the box. The device sells with a USB charging cable and a user manual. A companion Android app is said to be in existence, but we couldn't locate it.

Bottom line is that if you’re not bothered by the lack of an extensive app list, you might find Zebble is the right wrist-bound companion for you.
