Chinese mobile phone maker ZTE has announced a new mid- to high-end device in its homeland market, in the form of ZTE Star 1.

The new handset should arrive on the market with a nice range of highly appealing features packed inside, but with an affordable price tag attached to it, which should allow it to better compete with devices from rival handset vendors.

As GizChina notes, the phone was rumored quite a few times before, and it should join some other high-end devices in ZTE’s lineup, including the Grand S II or the Nubia X6.

The ZTE Star 1 was made official with a 5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, as well as with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8928 processor packed inside.

Moreover, ZTE announced that the new device features 2GB of RAM for increased performance capabilities and that it would arrive on shelves in two different versions, one with 16GB of internal memory, and the other with 32GB of storage packed inside.

The new phone is also set to provide users with an enhanced imaging experience, especially when it comes to taking selfies, courtesy of a 5-megapixel camera on the front.

There is also an 8-megapixel camera placed on the back of the handset, paired with dual-LED flash, which should also be capable of recording videos in full HD resolution.

The specs list of this smartphone also includes the usual set of connectivity capabilities, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB port, headphone jack, and a built-in GPS receiver. Infrared remote control, DLNA, and USB OTG functions are also available inside it.

At the same time, the new device will be able to connect to a wide range of networks out there, given that it packs support for FDD, TDD, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, and GSM frequencies.

ZTE Star 1 is powered by a 2300mAh battery and runs under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. Moreover, it features the MiFavor 2.3 UI loaded on top, with a flat design and a great deal of customization capabilities, including a voice assistant.

The smartphone is set to become available for purchase at 1,399 Yuan ($225/€163) for the 16GB variant and will cost 1,599 Yuan ($257/€186) if purchased with 32GB of internal memory.

For now, the phone appears set to hit shelves in China alone, though it might not be too long before ZTE officially confirms its availability in other markets around the world, so stay tuned to learn the news.
