Last month, Chinese mobile phone maker ZTE Corporation made official two new Android-based devices, namely the Nubia Z5S and Nubia Z5S mini, which already appear to be highly popular among mobile phone users in China.

The handset vendor has announced a record of 2.5 million pre-orders for the two smartphones, made via online retailer JD.com, the only portal to offer these devices for reservation.

The two phones are available for purchase in the company’s homeland market with price tags of 1,999 Yuan ($330/€240) and 1,499 Yuan ($247/€180) attached to them, respectively, as AndroidOS notes.

“The favorable market response to Z5S and Z5S mini surpassed a sales record previously set by Xiaomi, and affirms the strong potential of nubia’s online-based sales and marketing model,” ZTE said.

“The two new smartphones were designed using consumer feedback garnered by nubia and JD.com in a C2B (consumer to business) approach to deliver a customer-defined user experience.”

For those out of the loop, we should note that the ZTE Nubia Z5S was made official with a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor packed inside, as well as with a 5-inch LCD screen capable of delivering a full HD resolution.

Furthermore, the smartphone packs 2GB of RAM inside, along with a 2300mAh battery. On the back, it features a 13-megapixel camera with support for full HD resolution, paired with a 5MP front camera.

The handset’s specs list also includes the usual set of connectivity capabilities, along with IR blaster and SlimPort. Nubia Z5S runs under Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

Nubia Z5S mini, on the other hand, packs a 4.7-inch 720p IGZO display and is powered by a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor.

The smartphone features the same 13-megapixel rear camera and 5MP front camera setup as the larger counterpart, while packing a microSD memory card slot, and a 2000mAh battery, with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean platform loaded on top.
