On Monday, chip maker NVIDIA and Chinese vendor ZTE announced the release of ZTE Mimosa X, the first smartphone in the world to arrive on shelves with an Nvidia Icera modem inside.

The new mobile phone also packs an NVIDIA Tegra chipset, which features a dual-core CPU and GeForce GPU.

Additionally, it was packed with the said NVIDIA Icera 450 HSPA+ modem, which sports both baseband and RF processors, for increased data speeds at low power.

The specifications list of this device shows a 4.3-inch touchscreen display on the front, capable of delivering a qHD (960 x 540 pixels) resolution.

On the back, the new device sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper with the ability to record videos in HD resolution, complemented by a front camera that should prove a great option when it comes to making video calls.

The new ZTE Mimosa X was unveiled to the world with 4GB of internal memory, and with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

“The ZTE Mimosa X is exciting for a few reasons,” said Michael Rayfield, general manager of the mobile business at NVIDIA.

“The Mimosa X marks the first time NVIDIA technology powers all the major processors in a single smartphone, and also the first time a premium mobile computing experience is coming to the mainstream smartphone market.”

The new mobile phone is powered by Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and offers great multimedia capabilities, such as advanced audio distribution profile (A2DP) and Dolby sound.

The smartphone also brings along digital living network alliance (DLNA) compatibility, along with dual microphones, and built-in gyroscope.

The ZTE Mimosa X smartphone is set to arrive on shelves in the second quarter of the current year. The mobile phone was meant mainly for the mainstream market, which means that it will deliver great performance at an affordable price.
