Chinese mobile phone maker ZTE has finally decided to make its ZTE Grand S II smartphone official in its homeland market, after announcing the device at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January.

The handset has recently been rumored to arrive on shelves in the country with 4GB of RAM, but that won’t happen in the end. However, a special flavor of the phone will arrive on shelves in the country with bumped up specs, it seems.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the smartphone was announced with a 5.5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, as well as with a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor packed inside.

Moreover, the device lands on shelves with 2GB of RAM, as well as with a MicroSD memory card slot, and with dual-SIM capabilities inside.

ZTE Grand S II will be released in China with support for 4G LTE networks in the country, which should help it gain some traction there, given that these networks are only picking up pace locally.

The new high-end smartphone sports a 13-megapixel camera on the back, which is capable of recording videos in full HD resolution, and also packs a 2MP front camera for making video calls.

As Android Community notes, although the phone wasn’t unveiled in China with 4GB of RAM, a bumped up version will land on shelves with 3GB of RAM inside.

This exclusive variant will also feature 32GB of internal memory and will arrive in user’s hands with a leather cover, it seems.

ZTE also included the usual set of connectivity capabilities in the device, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, along with a built-in GPS receiver, while also packing it with all the usual sensors.

The smartphone runs under one of the latest versions of Google’s Android operating system and also comes with various software enhancements from ZTE itself, such as voice unlock, voice photography, and My-Drive.

Mobile phone users in China will be able to purchase the new ZTE Grand S II at only 1,699 Yuan ($274/€199), if they go for the standard version. Those who would rather grab the exclusive and better spec’s variant will have to pay 2,499 Yuan ($403/€292) for it.

Even if some might be disappointed by the fact that Grand S II did not become the very first smartphone in the world to sport 4GB of RAM, the price tag that ZTE attached to the device in its homeland market certainly makes it a great option for users there.
