Rumors on the upcoming availability of the ZTE Fury at Sprint surfaced yesterday for the first time. Today, the carrier officially confirmed that the affordable Android-based smartphone will be available for purchase starting March 11.

Potential customers can look forward to seeing this budget-friendly smartphone in all Sprint retail channels including online for just $19.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a new two-year agreement.

The phone is aimed at children and busy parents, especially that ZTE Fury comes pre-loaded with Sprint Familiy Location, Sprint Mobile Controls and Sprint Drive First apps and services.

However, users would have to pay a $5 per month for Sprint Family Locator service, which will allow them to locate up to four phones.

With Sprint Mobile Controls parents can lock the phone whenever they want or they can even schedule locks. In addition, they can also browse their child’s contacts and apps downloaded to the phone. This service is available for $4.99 per month, per line.

Last but not least, Sprint Drive First application automatically locks the phone when traveling more than 10 MPH.

Additionally, it can unlock the smartphone when the car has stopped driving, and directs incoming calls to voicemail. The app is available for $2 per month, per line.

ZTE Fury sports a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, as well as 4GB of internal memory.

The smartphone is equipped with a 1GHz single core processor and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

It is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and comes pre-loaded with Sprint ID, which allows users to customize their phones' as they see fit.

Providing affordable, Android-powered devices, like ZTE Fury, in our lineup helps give families the tools and information to better manage their wireless usage while still providing the style and functionality they need to keep up with their busy lives,” said David Owens, Sprint vice president-Product Development.
