Z-Run is preparing to outrun the apocalypse soon, challenging its players to pick a path through the undead horde on the PlayStation Vita handheld gaming platform next month.

Developer Beatshapers has revealed more information on the endless running game on the PlayStation Blog, through its CEO Alexey Menshikov.

Z-Run is the company's 20th release on the PlayStation Network, and was delayed since last summer's announcement in order to make the game bigger and better.

Beatshapers has also provided a gameplay video that is meant to illustrate Z-Run' jumping and sliding action, while attempting to escape the deadly clutch of various zombies, while at the same time functioning as a video tutorial for those who decide to pick up the game.

Z-Run's premise is simple, the world has been over-run by flesh-eating zombies, and the player is stranded in the middle of a city in a post-apocalyptical scenario, with nowhere to run.

Gamers have to make their way out of the city on foot, otherwise risking being eaten and turned into a brainless living dead creature.

As being mobile is key to survival, in Z-Run, players never stand still, and will engage in an infinite running experience during which they will display their skills and agility.

Users will be able to sprint through crowds of undead assailants, avoiding falling over obstacles or running head-first into abandoned cars, as that is a surefire way to get caught by the legions of zombies.

Players will have to dodge, sprint, slide, jump and dive their way to safety, but they won't have to do it empty handed. A large arsenal of weapons is available for players to collect, from guns, bats, planks and wrenches to an electric guitar or katana, all of them useful items in the mission to keep flesh eaters at bay.

But gamers who want to escape the apocalypse also have to be careful not to exert themselves too early, as the city is big and it's packed with zombies. Every special move, punch or guitar swing will cost energy, and players who spend their stamina too quickly will become an easy meal for the armies of the undead.

Z-Run is entirely 3D, pushing the PlayStation Vita's hardware to its limits, offering a detailed third-person perspective on the action. There are multiple routes to take through the city, and exploration will prove to be an essential part of survival, as will be upgrading your runner's stats, as the longer you survive the more effective you will become.

Z-Run is scheduled to release in early May on the PlayStation Network, exclusively for the PlayStation Vita handheld device.
