The categories were removed from the homepage

Although many of us didn't even notice it, the latest YouTube update brought some unexpected modifications on the official page of the online video sharing service. It seems that the categories were removed from the main page, a move that didn't offer the visitors any other alternative to browse the main types of clips. Even if I'm able to view the categories just in the same place where they used to be, the YouTube team announced today that the online video sharing service employees are working on it.

"We wanted to officially address the current situation of category browsing having gone missing from the site after the latest update (which also affected search for channel honors). We want to apologize for the upset and frustration that this has caused you. We wholeheartedly understand and we have been listening to the overwhelming feedback from all of you to "bring them back!" the YouTube team said today.

As you probably know, the recently-debuted YouTube homepage brings some new elements that improve the user's browsing experience. The first object that attracts the visitor's attention is surely represented by the thumbnails displayed at the top of the page that show the videos watched at that time. However, the update also brought some unpleasant modifications and - as the YouTube team mentioned - it was just an accident.

"It was actually not our intention to take this helpful function away from you. There were technical reasons this had to happen in the short-term, but the good news is that we're working hard on a solution to bring it back. More news when we have it, and thanks so much for your patience in the meantime," it is also mentioned.

YouTube is the popular online video sharing service acquired by Google in October 2006 for no less than $1.65 billion.
