Ever wondered why they are trying to move the TV shows on the internet? Basically, because by this, they are exposing the content to a much wider community and the reach of the commercials is a lot deeper.

But if the shows are on the internet and are gaining there big audiences who is watching TV then and why? It is a lot cozier and sitcom-like to sit on the couch and just stroll through the variety of channels ranging from teleshopping and nature channels to an all day every day full contact action variety.

Well, the latest study conducted by Joel Waldfogel of The Wharton School shows that "traditional weekly television viewing dropped when Web viewing was used as a substitute by about 25 minutes. However, time spent viewing television content on the Web accounts for four hours weekly, and time spent on network-controlled viewing (television plus network websites) increased by 1.5 hours."

So what did it prove eventually? That YouTube is the best means to advertise the TV programs on one hand and on the other, that it doesn't really matter to the fans if the shows are being watched - the target audience will be there on the receiving end.

TV will be watched no matter what. Be it on the regular apparatus with which we are used or on the LCD in front of you while you are reading this, it will be watched. No sleet or sleep or? whatever the other postman creeds were will ever stop that from happening.

The study surveyed a few hundred University of Pennsylvania students and this makes for a good start for another larger scaled study to be conducted in the future. I just hope that they don't come to me for it, they couldn't drag me with two Titanics away from the TV if I found something I liked. Oh, and I'd choose the classical couch potato position to do that, not that it matters.
