The contest has reached the deadline for submitting videos

You are now supposed to vote for the "Go Vote!" contest and campaign that Google's video sharing site has been advertising. It sounds pretty weird when you come to think about it, but the end result is really going to be worth it, at least in the eyes of Jason Reitman, the award winning director of "Thank You For Smoking" and the upcoming film "Juno".

In a video posted on YouTube, he just sits very relaxed on his chair and lets everybody know that it's down to 20 finalists and that he encourages everybody to vote, all that with a cheerleader going back and forth behind him with her pompons and looking all confused or something like it. Cheap trick to attract attention, but, hey, it worked! It always does, an as-naked-as-it-can-get beautiful woman in the background will most certainly make you consider it (whatever the message might be), just because of the lovely company.

The YouTube official blog says that the response to the project was overwhelming: "We were blown away by the number of exceptional films that were submitted - both from experienced filmmakers and first-timers."

What do you know, there's still some juice left in the justice and public responsibility tractor around Brazil, UK, US, France, Canada, Italy and Spain, as only entries posted by users in those countries have a shot at winning the grand prize. Everybody else is allowed to vote, though, so be sure to do so. Oh, and as Reitman said, don't vote a thousand times for your friend if he made it to be a finalist, that's kind of against the idea of the campaign, so just play it fair and square and hope he'll win.

Some of the better films that did not make the finals have been made available via spotlights in the YouTube's Film & Animation category, so be sure to check that out, too.
