New choices available all over

If you?re a real YouTube user you must have heard about (if you haven?t already used by now) the Tags and Video Categories in your account uploading and editing page. It?s all good, YouTube is actually trying to help you out for a change (remember the color scheme for the new player? That is not helping!) and the development team added last night a set of new tags that will help you better describe and represent your content, as well as a few categories.

Some categories were renamed, some were invented and others were demoted to be a dropdown in another category (and games fans will be bitterly disappointed, their movies and trailers will be a subsidiary of a larger "Entertainment" category and this means that they?ll be a lot more difficult to find burrowed under the tone of Oprah shows and not only that are currently being uploaded). The changes are as follows, according to the YouTube Blog:

- Travel & Events (previously "Travel & Places") - Howto & Style (was "Howto + DIY") - Gadgets and Games (now part of "Entertainment")

The new categories I mentioned earlier are "Education", "Nonprofits & Activism" and "Science and Technology". The YouTube team added that "Since these categories are brand new, we need your help to populate them by uploading new videos or editing any of your current videos which are relevant to these topics. Once these categories fill up with all of your awesome content they'll be searchable on the Videos Tab (a few of the above changes are already reflected on the Videos page)."

They also mentioned that more categories changes and additions are to follow closely with this being just the beginning. Something has finally started to move in this direction, the "Education" category for example was being asked for by fans for quite a long time now.
