The people have spoken: fans voted for their favorites in first edition of the awards

The first edition of the YouTube Music Awards took place last night in New York City and, as the saying goes, the people have spoken because it was the fans who voted for their favorites on various social media platforms.

Eminem won Artist of the Year, which is hardly surprising considering that, despite the fact that he takes so long to come out with new material and hardly does any media in between albums, he remains one of the most popular and loved artists of the day.

The win is twice as important for him because, as you might know, he has a new album coming out this month (tomorrow, November 5, to be more accurate), “Marshall Mathers LP2,” so this means even more publicity for it.

The other winners of the night were Girls’ Generation, which took home the Video of the Year award for “I Got A Boy,” DeStorm, winning Innovation of the Year for “See Me Standing,” and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who won Breakthrough of the Year.

YouTube Phenomenon was named “I Knew You Were Trouble,” while Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix won Response of the Year for “Radioactive.”
