Mountain View-based search engine giant Google announced on Wednesday that it released a new version of its YouTube application for Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile-based mobile phones, namely YouTube Mobile app version 2.4. According to the company, the application has already been translated in 12 languages, installed on millions of handsets around the world, and also named the Nokia Ovi Top App of 2009.

The YouTube Mobile app for Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile phones was launched a year ago, Google states, adding that the enhancements the new version brings should be welcomed by all users. “We strongly believe that faster is better. The YouTube Mobile app is designed to be the fastest way to find and play a video on your smartphone. In the initial release we minimized the number of features and focused on speed for things that matter - app startup, finding a video, and starting playback,” a recent post on Google Mobile Blog states.

Among the new features that the application includes, we can count search query suggestions, as well as support for 'My Account.' Moreover, the software solution includes a new homescreen user interface, which has been developed so as to fit larger screens. When logging into a YouTube account on the phone, users can now view favorites, subscriptions and playlists no matter their location.

“Let’s say you have recently found an amazing basketball shot video and favorited it on your desktop PC. When you’re at the basketball court with your friends all you need to do is launch the YouTube app and go to your ‘Favorites’ to show it to them,” the blog post reads. Also, users will benefit from query suggestions with the fresh release, which means they will receive relevant suggestions when typing into the YouTube search box. This feature should help users save time when searching for content, and is expected to prove very useful on mobile phones.

The application is available for download for both Windows Mobile and Nokia S60 handsets from m.youtube.com/app on the phone's browser.
