14 DAY TRIAL // YouTube is certainly one of the most popular websites out there. The video site enjoys a huge audience and has come to define online video. But now it’s got an bigger goal in its sights, becoming the most popular page on Facebook. YouTube’s Facebook fan page has recently passed the 10 million ‘likes’ mark, is now the 13th most popular page on the social network and the latest to join the ‘10 million fans club.’
“Today our Facebook page hit an important milestone: over 10 million of you have clicked that ‘Like’ button, making us more popular than Cristiano Ronaldo and -- whoa -- music?!,” YouTube said on its blog.
“Now, that’s pretty awesome, but honestly we won’t rest until we rock those vampires, sweep by the Prez and topple Lady Gaga. Help us get there by liking this page, writing on our Wall and sharing the videos and news we post daily. And, of course, a huge thanks to anyone and everyone who’s already said they ‘Like’ us. It's most definitely mutual!,” Mia Quagliarelly, YouTube’s Community Manager, added.
YouTube has been on somewhat of a quest to increase its ‘likes’ count and it seems to be working. Of course, at the rate at which Facebook pages grow these days, it’s hardly surprising. Just last month, Lady Gaga passed the 10 million mark. Now her page has almost 15 million fans, growing by 50 percent in just one month. In fact, she seems close becoming more popular than Facebook itself, or rather the social network’s own fan page which counts a little over 15 million likes.
But if YouTube really wants to be the biggest it has to take on the heavyweights. Michael Jackson is still the most popular celebrity on Facebook, with close to 18 million fans. Overall though, the one to beat is Zynga’s Texas Hold’em Poker which has over 22 million fans.
