“Game of Thrones” speculation usually abounds in between seasons and, seeing how the fifth one doesn’t premiere until spring next year, I’d say we’re in for a very busy ride, gossip-wise. Today, we’re going to talk about a matter of significant importance: Jon Snow’s parentage.

In George R.R. Martin’s books and the HBO show, fans have been told that Jon Snow is the illegitimate son of Eddard (Ned) Stark and a woman whose identity he refused to reveal until his final hour. Not even Jon Snow knows who she is, and it’s pretty much killing him.

Martin himself is guarding this secret well, with reports online saying that he would not impart it to Kit Harington, the actor playing the bastard. The producers of the HBO show probably know who Jon’s mother is but they’re not saying either.

Leave it to the fans to look through all the clues and come up with a viable theory (which has actually been around for some time): as the video below demonstrates, Jon Snow is actually more important to the story than you were led to believe so far.

He’s not just a bastard of the Starks on The Wall, defending the world against the wildlings and the White Walkers, he’s the heir of the Starks and the Targaryens and, as such, his claim to the Iron Throne is actually more important than the Mother of Dragons’, Daenerys Targaryen.

Jon Snow could be the son of Ned’s sister, Lyanna Stark and King Rhaegar Targaryen, Daenerys’ brother. The only reason Ned lied all these years is because he wanted to protect Jon from Robert Baratheon’s fury, as he was determined to eliminate all Targaryens, no matter their age.

Totally makes sense, doesn’t it? Check out the video for more evidence in support of this theory and let me know what you make of it, using the comments section below.
