Experts say they doubt this is a feature and not a bug

Experts have found that iPhone 5s owners can register a large number of fingerprints that can be used to unlock the device via Touch ID.

Normally, Touch ID is designed to allow the user to register the fingerprints for each of his/her ten fingers. For each finger, the iPhone 5s owner can add a fingerprint in the settings menu.

However, experts have found that multiple fingers can be added for each of these ten slots. Tom Richardson from the UK has managed to add five fingerprints for each of these slots. This means that as many as 50 fingerprints could be registered for each device.

While Richardson made the demonstration only by using his own fingers, Iranian researchers from i-Phone.ir have made a proof-of-concept of this flaw with 5-6 individuals. They’ve provided a video to The Hacker News.

Experts say this could be a feature and not a bug, but they doubt that Apple wanted to allow 50 people to be able to unlock the same iPhone.
