Google is adamant to make its Chrome Web Store a huge success. The redesign it introduced a few weeks ago may help, the site is a huge improvement over the previous version.

But Google is not done yet, it's making several more tweaks to the Web Store. It is now possible to see the most popular or the highest rated apps in any category and there is also a new tab on app pages, which lists more applications that may be related or similar.

"A few weeks ago, we redesigned the Chrome Web Store to make it easier to discover apps. Today, we’re introducing a few new features that make it even easier to find what you’re looking for," Shannon Guymon, product manager at Google, wrote.

"You can now view the most popular and highest-rated apps using two new sorting filters. These are available in the store’s homepage and category view. You can also find new apps and extensions to try by using the new 'Related' tab," she explained.

So far, apps in categories were listed in an order determined by Google. But you can now see which are the most popular apps in a specific category and also which are getting the highest scores from users.

This should ensure that applications that are either used by a lot of people or appreciated by a lot of people surface and are more easily discoverable. In the end, it should lead to more apps being installed.

The second change is a new Related tab in any app's description page. This tab, as the name implies, lists applications that may be similar or come from the same developer.

Finally, if you're looking for a more curated approach to app discovery, Google has you covered with a list of apps perfect for Christmas and one for the New Year.
