A different kind of portable audio

Yorozu is a nifty gadget, which proves that there can be more to portable sound than one could think of in the first place. Being able to enjoy audio in pretty much any place you might find yourself each day is one thing that really does not need the proper speakers, as most of you may believe. And if you still think this is baloney, please take a closer look at the Yorozu, one surprising toy for people who like alternative sound solutions.

We still don't know what Yorozu means in Japanese (if it actually means something), but the gadget is pretty cool, as it uses vibrations to make things resonate and produce sound.

First of all, the Yorozu can be employed with any kind of portable music source, as long as it sports a 3.5mm jack. All you have to do is connect your MP3 player, CD/DVD player, iPod, or the like to the Yorozu using a jack-jack cable, stick the vibrating end of this toy to anything you feel like transforming into a temporary speaker, and press “Play.” The Yorozu will transform the audio signal it receives from your player, and will convert it into impulses transmitted via cable to the vibrating piece.

In order to enjoy sound coming from a plastic water bottle, your cupboard, doors, and other objects, you'll have to affix the vibrating element of the Yorozu to them, using the special pads provided in the box. The Yorozu can deliver a power of 1 W, with a 2 W peak, and can be used with almost anything. In fact, the package contains an empty milk carton, to let you experiment with the Yorozu as soon as you get your hands on it.

The device operates with three AAA batteries, and weighs in around 26 grams, while its small dimensions will never burden you. From now on, you just have to stick the vibrating end to whatever you think would resonate better and enjoy you music. The AC resistance is 8 Ohms and the reproduced frequencies range between 425 Hz and 9 kHz. No proper bass and no audiophile-grade highs from the Yorozu, but we guess that nobody has really expected anything else.

Now, if you can't find a better use for $89 and feel like being in an experimental mood, the Yorozu is your best deal. Moreover, think about the pranks you can set up using the Yorozu – how cool would a kitchen table or chair be when a strange voice coming from nowhere would say that it is the Archangel Michael speaking?

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
