One of the most popular communication methods today is the World Wide Web and a number of related technologies that are using the Voice over IP (VoIP for short) protocol are becoming widely used. Among the many programs and applications that are using these technologies, Skype is probably the most popular as it allows a high-quality sound. In order to make it easy for computer and Skype users to call their friends over the Internet, a number of hardware manufacturing companies recently released many gadgets, such as this combo between a normal computer mouse and a phone.

The USB Handsfree Skype Mouse is not only a combo between a mouse and a phone, but it also allows a handsfree operation, so users may in fact use this mouse only as a phone substitute appliance that integrates both a loud volume speaker and a microphone.

The computer mouse part of the USB Handsfree Skype Mouse is composed of a quite ordinary mouse which is based on an 800 dots per inch (DPI for short) optical sensor able to work on just any flat surface. It also comes with two left and right mouse buttons and a scroll wheel.

The VoIP phone part, on the other hand, is much more complex as it integrates a call and cancel button, a loud speaker and a microphone. Thanks to the integrated USB based sound card, the phone component is able to play various chord music ring tones which can be preselected for a number of users. The built in microphone and speaker come with a unique echo-cancellation technology and thanks to the earphone connector, users are also able to keep their conversations private.

The USB Handsfree Skype Mouse supports most of the now popular VoIP protocols and applications, so users may select their desired communication program from a list that includes Skype, VoipButser, VoipStunt, VoIPCheap, VoipDiscount, SparVoip, Internetcalls, poivY, WebCallDirect, VoipCheapCom, FreeCall and NetAppel. The entire combo unit weighs only 90 grams, and because of its normal mouse dimensions, it acts as a proper mouse too, without incommoding users. The phone and mouse combo unit is supported by the Microsoft Windows Vista, XP, 2000, ME, 98 operating systems and it is available for purchase from online stores for $25.
