Advanced Micro Devices launched yesterday dual-core processors aimed at servers and workstations. The company hopes that these solutions will be more successful and more efficient than Intel?s products.

Both companies have presented this week dual core processing solutions, the difference being that Intel didn?t offer chips for the server market.

According to vunet.com, Marty Seyer, corporate vice president and general manager of the processor division within AMD declared during this launching that because of the success and superior quality of the AMD64 processors, the company is able to launching advance dual core solutions aimed at servers and corporate segment.

Thanks to the dual-core non-disruptive technology, AMD?s processors offer unprecedented performances and are perfectly compatible with the current infrastructure.

Dual-core Opteron processors come in three models: 865, 870 and 875, and they should be ready by June. The prices for these solutions vary between 1514 and 2649 USD. Also for the professional market, AMD proposes the 200 series, which comprises Opteron 265 for 851 USD and Opteron 275 for 1.299 USD. The 200 series will be available starting from May. All these processors are manufactured using the 90 nanometer technology.

Regarding prices, the dual-core Opteron is much more convenient than the Intel Xeon, which has a price tag of 3.900 USD.

Along with the launching of the Opterons, AMD has announced the dual Athlon 64 solutions: 4400+, 4600+ and last, but not least 4800+.
