Apple Inc. released four new versions of its popular iPod for users who want either a compact device or a full-color media player that can display photos. The newcommers are the photo-capable iPod, featuring a high-resolution screen, which can hold up to 25,000 digital pictures, Apple said.

A 30-gigabyte model carries a price of $349, while the 60-gigabyte version will cost $449.

Meanwhile, Apple also unveiled two news iPod minis with greater storage memory and increased battery life. The 4-gigabyte model, said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO: "The iPod Mini is now available at the magic price point of $199."

Having an MP3 player is in some parts of the world as natural as owning a fixed telephone line. A recent study revealed that 22 million adults in the United States, or 11 per cent of the population, own an iPod or other MP3 player.

The new models expand the range of Apple's popular hard-drive-based music players and increase the product line's capabilities in digital photography. A $29 camera adapter for the iPod Photo answers the call for connecting the player directly to cameras without the need for a computer as a go-between.

The new iPod Camera Connector is an optional accessory that enables customers to connect their digital camera to iPod photo and import their photos into the iPod, providing tremendous storage space so they can take more pictures.
