Getting stuff for free is something we all like, whether it comes in the form of a gift or a prize won in a competition.

Well, a university in the UK is hoping the allure of free technology will prompt perspective college students to apply with them.

Free Galaxy Note 8s awarded to those enrolling at the University of East London

So if you’re a young adult looking to go to college, enrolling to the University of East London will get you a free Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet pre-loaded with digital textbooks (as seen at It Pro Portal). So you won’t even have to spend money on purchasing the needed literature.

The University will offer these tablets to up to 4,000 first-year students. Freshmen will be able to hold on to the tablet while they are not on university grounds, so they can use it for studying activities while in dorms or visiting parents at home.

The computers will be handed out in a partnership with JS Group, which is in charge of the project. Equipping all these students with Samsung tablets will cost a pretty hefty sum of money £2 / $3.25 / €2.56 million.

The University believes that students starting the college today are “digital natives” so having the needed study materials in digital form will help with the learning process.

The tabs will be handed out to newcomers coming from other counties and a psychology student from Norway and an anthropology student from Italy have already received theirs.

There has been a lot of pressure placed on universities to provide lower and lower tuition fees, on top of other benefits. And the University of East London believes that since we live in an era of gadgets, this is what students crave for the most.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is upgradable to Android 4.4 KitKat

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is quite a cherished tablet among slate lovers. The device arrives with an 8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen providing 1280 x 800 pixel resolution (translates into 189 ppi).

Under the hood running things along is a quad-core Exynos 4412 processor from Samsung’s own garden fitted with 2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.

While the tablet ships out with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, the good news is that owners can perform an upgrade to Android 4.4. KitKat.

Moreover, the tablet comes with a smart stylus, which will come extremely handy for freshmen during their studying activities.

So there you have it, want a free Samsung Galaxy Note 8? Well, just enroll to University.
