For most of us, the New Year kicked off a bit over two weeks ago, but there are yet many people to celebrate it.

The Chinese New Year, aka the Lunar New Year, will begin on January 23rd this year. That’s when the new moon will rise in the sky in the first lunar month.

According to the Chinese calendar, 2012 is the Year of the Dragon. On January 23rd, the most important Chinese celebration of the year will take place.

Microsoft too decided to join the celebrations, and came up with a special Theme for Windows 7-based computers: Year of the Dragon.

“January 23rd brings the start of the Year of the Dragon, for which we’ve assembled a collection of magnificent ancient and modern renderings in stone, wood, and bronze,” Microsoft’s Jennifer Shepherd notes in a recent blog post.

Courtesy of the new theme, users all around the world will be able to celebrate the Chinese New Year. They will have the Year of the Dragon brought to their computers’ desktops.

On January 23rd, Chinese people celebrate the start of the Year of the Water Dragon, which will end on February 9th next year, according to Wikipedia.

This is only one of the manners in which Microsoft celebrates the Year of the Dragon. The company also came up with special Year of the Dragon Arc Touch Mice, and showcased them at CES 2012. The limited edition hardware came out in November.

As for the new special theme that Windows 7 users can download for their computers, it was made available for free, and can be found on Softpedia as well.

The same as with other themes from Microsoft, it should be compatible with Windows 8. Those who use the Developer Preview of Windows 8 can also download and install it. Download the free Year of the Dragon theme for Windows 7.
