Yahoo has announced that the online video search, released in December in beta version, is now available for the public.

The new function of the search engine allows users to search video clips and trailers from sources like CBSNews.com, MTV.com and IFILM.com; the service can be accessed at http://video.search.yahoo.com

The newly released service uses the same principle as for image searching. The users types in a keyword and the search engine displays the results, each of them accompanied by details like clip resolution, dimension and address.

After selecting a certain video clip, the user can visualize or send the address by mail to a friend.

Aside from the above sources, Yahoo is also video clips from Scripps Network's Home & Garden Television and The Food Network, Discovery Communications' Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Travel Channel.

Yahoo's announcement comes only a few days after Google announced a similar service which is in beta stage. Google hasn't announced yet a complete list of its partners, but we know from sure that the search engine will be indexing from: Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, CNN and Travel Channel.

Video content search is the next challenge for search engines, Google and Yahoo being the main competitors in this domain, followed closely by AskJeevs and MSN.
