The joint customer Internet security service unveiled on July 24, 2006 marks Yahoo and Symantec marriage on a common security front aimed to deliver an advantage over the main competitors Google and Microsoft. As per their agreement, Symantec's Norton Internet Security product will be handed out directly to Yahoo customers, providing users with a comprehensive Internet security solution.

Symantec has jumped at the possibility to directly gain access to Yahoo customers world wide in another move meant to counteract Microsoft's involvement of the security market. If Symantec's security solutions will become synonymous with Yahoo's services, the security company will tap the global market made up by the hundred of millions of Yahoo customers.

"Internet security is important to our Yahoo users and by working with Symantec, we are bringing the comfortable security blanket that their Norton brand services provide to consumers," stated Stephen Miller, director, product management, Yahoo.

The Yahoo network will deliver the co-branded Norton Internet Security service while Symantec will also provide Yahoo Toolbar users with Norton Spyware scan, bundling the two together. The joint security services are available to all Yahoo users for a free 30 day trial and as a 12 month subscription for $49.99. In this regard Yahoo customers benefit from a $20 discount.
