The YouTube phenomenon is forcing the other big players on the online market to revamp their video services, because the idea of having a startup company being number one in this field is inconceivable for the likes of Google and Yahoo.

After Google, it was Yahoo!'s turn to improve its video offer to attract more users.

One of the main changes made by the Sunnyvale giant targeted the storage of the video materials on its own servers. Moreover, Yahoo Video is now divided into categories, one of which being the most watched one.

The result page now offers details about the video content and the channels which include the flicks. Users are also able to rate, review and send links via Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger.

All the improvements brought by Yahoo!'s engineers aim at bringing the service closer to YouTube.

In mid-May, Google also made some changes to its video offer, the service now allowing users to upload and share videos, without having to install an additional software application. Additionally, Google's users will no longer wait 24 hours before their video material is uploaded.
