As you probably know, Yahoo's Flickr is one of the most known online photo sharing services, allowing users to publish, share and comment pictures with other members of the community. Currently, it is extremely popular because it contains several image manipulation utilities such as photo editors and organizing tools. Because it is owned by the giant portal Yahoo, Flickr is often improved and updated with even more functions able to improve the functionality of the online service. Today, the recent rumors are finally confirmed after Yahoo sustained the company is now preparing a Chinese version of the photo-sharing site that will be able to increase the giant portal's presence on the Asian market.

"The (Hong Kong) traditional-Chinese interface of Flickr will be available later this year," a Hong Kong-based Yahoo representative said in an e-mail message according to ZDNet. "The Hong Kong-targeted Web site will offer all the core features currently available on the English platform, spokeswoman Pauline Wong said, without elaborating. While the traditional version of written Chinese is widely used in Hong Kong and Taiwan, the simplified characters comprise the standard in mainland China. However, most mainland Chinese are able to read traditional Chinese, and vice versa," the same publication reported.

In the past, Yahoo's attempts of becoming more popular in the Asian market were denied straight from the beginning, after the regional giant was way too powerful to compete with the company. Both Internet giants, Google and Yahoo, tried to open new Chinese offices among other regional solutions but their popularity was never as strong as in Europe or US because Baidu attracted an important part of customers. Yahoo was the most affected company because the firm recorded numerous departures as well as an internal reorganization able to revamp the success of the old company.
