It will look as an e-mail client

It looks like the mortal combat for the largest free e-mail account is just about over. That, or Yahoo has decided to focus on the quality of its free e-mail service rather than the quantity of storage space offered.

According to CNET, Yahoo is getting ready to carry out the most important change of its e-mail service since 1997.

By using the technology bought in July 2004 with the acquisition of Oddpost, Yahoo will offer a new DHTML-based interface for Yahoo Mail, which will allow the users to make changes as easy as if they were using e-mail clients like Outlook or Eudora.

The new interface allows e-mails to be dragged-and-dropped into folders, deleted by simply pressing Delete and viewed in a message viewing panel.

Yahoo will initially offer the new interface to a small number of users, for testing, and then to the general public, at an ulterior moment. The current interface will still be available, and the users will be able to choose what interface they want to use.

Yahoo hasn't revealed a certain date for the release of the new service. In terms of storage space, Yahoo will continue to offer free 1GB e-mail accounts.
