This time Yahoo closes Webjay

After Yahoo Photos and Yahoo Auctions, the Sunnyvale company is closing one more service owned by them. This time, Webjay, the music playlist sharing service is the lucky one, being shut down after approximately one year since it was acquired by Yahoo. The announcement is placed on the official page of the service, informing the users that Webjay will be closing at the end of June. There is no official reason for the closure, but it seems that Yahoo wants to bundle Webjay's features into Yahoo Music.

"Announcement: Webjay will be closing at the end of June! Click here to learn how you can back up your playlists and keep your player running smoothly," the message posted on the official page of the service sustains. However, the provided link to back up the playlists returns an error, so you're not able to save anything: "Error: database overloaded. Back in 5 minutes."

As you might know, Yahoo already closed two more services this month, making it clear that the useless services will be shut down unless they can bring traffic to the company. First, it was Yahoo Photos. The solution was closed because Yahoo decided that Flickr is able to offer the same features to more users as the recently acquired product has an impressive number of members in comparison with Yahoo Photos. Then, the Sunnyvale company announced the closure of Yahoo Auctions in June, the same date as the shut down date for Webjay.

Search Engine Land has a more detailed removal notification that provides some alternative methods to transfer the playlists to other websites. "We are sorry to announce that Webjay will be closing its doors at the end of June, 2007. Please take this time to back up any playlists you want to keep. If you are using the XSPF Musicplayer, you may be able to keep it running. See below for instructions on moving the XSPF Musicplayer from Webjay to another host," the message said according to Search Engine Land.
