What will spammers think of next?

Have you seen the spam top for the first half of the year? Well, spammers mainly focused on shares, knockoff products, drugs and stuff like that. People have been warned about those spam-scams and many know how to dodge 'em. But what worries me most is that last place in the chart, dubbed "other". There are spam messages you've never heard about, and some seem to be real. Users have no idea about these threats and are prone to get infected from links in spam messages.

If you use the Yahoo! Messenger (like I do) you've probably received a message that goes something like "Yahoo! is closing down the free Messenger! Click on this link if you want to save your account! And send this to the rest of your list!" Now that is just stupid - why would they close a business worth millions of dollars? Still, some gullible users clicked on that link, to "save" their account. Instead of saving their IDs - that weren't in any danger in the first place - they got a nice little virus. So, don't fall for this!

Thing is, I also got this by e-mail one day. The worst part about it is that the hackers don't even have to go and infect people with a Trojan bot and turn their computers into mailer-zombies - they just send out the message and gullible people that think they're doing something good send it willingly to others. The e-mail, just like the IM, contained a link - it said "keep your account active", but when I hovered my mouse over it, the IP reported by my browser was nothing Yahoo!-related.

There's a small chance for you to get such an e-mail, as they are not botnet-powered, but if you do, please delete it. That's what I did. And if you really think that the sender might be on to something, just check the official website for any news, but trust me, Yahoo! Messenger isn't closing down!
