The feature has been in testing for a few weeks

Yahoo is announcing an interesting, new feature in Yahoo Messenger, Delicious bookmarks integration. The feature has been in testing and has now been rolled out to Yahoo Messenger users. It allows them to easily save a link they receive in an IM conversation using Delicious and even share it with the world.

"This week we launched a new integration with Delicious.com, Yahoo!’s handy bookmark storage and sharing service. Now when you send or receive a link in an IM conversation, you can easily save it to your Delicious account and share it with friends," Sarah Bacon, Yahoo Messenger product manager, announced. "If you already have an account with Delicious, you may need to first visit Delicious.com to link it to your Yahoo! ID. But if you’re new to Delicious, you can create your account using your Yahoo! ID right in Yahoo! Messenger."

Users don't have to do anything to get the feature, it is already active and available for Yahoo Messenger 9 and 10. Every time a link is shared in a conversation, they can save it for later. Hovering the mouse over the link will pop up a small "Bookmark" button. Clicking it will open up a new window, where one can enter the details of the bookmark, like a title, a short description and related tags. Once the bookmark is saved, it will show up on Delicious.com for all of one’s friends to see. Of course, users can also make the link private if they want to keep it to themselves.

But there's another feature that makes bookmarking links with Yahoo Messenger almost mystical in nature. The links saved complete a 'circle of life' of sorts thanks to the Yahoo Updates feature. Basically, if you have it enabled, anything you share on Delicious, including these links, are fed into your Yahoo Updates stream, which your friends can see on the Yahoo homepage, Yahoo Mail and, yes, in Yahoo Messenger as well. So, the friend who shared the link with you in the first place will now get the same link sent back to them as a status update from you.

The social bookmarking feature should already be enabled in Yahoo Messenger, which, incidentally, has gotten a small update very recently.

Yahoo Messenger 10 (full installer) is available for download here on Softpedia.
