The super giant Yahoo agreed to pay $350 million for Zimbra, a company that would support the firm's efforts to improve the email solution and make it very competitive for the other technologies on the market. Although Yahoo improved Mail a lot, it seems like it wants even more and Zimbra is the one which can strive to help this. Because I'm sure you don't know a thing about Zimbra, you should know that it is a company focused on email and collaboration technologies, exactly what Yahoo wants to obtain. According to the two companies, Yahoo and Zimbra plan to expand the mail offering into universities and business so I guess the Sunnyvale giant aims to step into the corporate market just like its rival Google with Gmail.

"Our industry-leading communications products, including Yahoo! Mail, are critical to the future growth and success of Yahoo!," said Jerry Yang, chief executive officer, Yahoo! Inc. "Zimbra's tremendous talent and innovative technology will help to extend our core Mail offerings, further strengthening our strong leadership position in this space. Additionally, Zimbra's successful relationships with large ISPs are key as we expand our worldwide partner network and continue to focus on our commitment to being the partner of choice."

In the recent period, Yahoo Mail was one of the top companies at the Sunnyvale office, the product being improved with several new features. It all started some time ago when Yahoo announced that Mail will receive unlimited storage capacity. Moreover, Messenger was also implemented into Mail so all the users are now able to communicate on the Internet straight from the interface of the mail service. Zimbra represents a new step for the next update that might take Mail into a different market: the enterprise one where it must provide better functionality with more features.

"As an industry leader, we are constantly approached for different e-mail solutions," said Brad Garlinghouse, senior vice president, communications and communities, Yahoo! Inc. "With Zimbra, we will bring the security, reliability and anywhere access of Yahoo! Mail to people at school, work and home, further enhancing our leadership position in Web mail."
