Compared to the beta version, Yahoo Desktop Search comes in addition with the LiveWords function, that is specifically designed to allow users to instantaneously search for any keyword on the Internet.
Unlike Google or MSN, Yahoo Desktop Search preferred to offer users an interface, which is not integrated in the Internet browser.
Yahoo Desktop Search is based on the technology licensed by Yahoo from X1. The product's development started this year, in January.
Two of Yahoo Desktop Search's advantages are that it includes more configuration options than its direct competitors and that it allows users to define search criteria.
Currently, Yahoo Desktop Search indexes over 300 categories of files, ranging from e-mails, Office documents to audio and video files. Yahoo Desktop Search is also capable of indexing Yahoo Messenger conversations.
