New shortcut for the Yahoo search engine

Yahoo's search engine tends to become an all-in-one search technology as the user is able to get almost any type of information straight from the main search engine results page. Today, a new shortcut is officially introduced into the search engine, allowing the consumers to get hot details about baseball and the most known players in the championship. All you need to do is search for a certain player and you should get an interesting table with statistics including a fantasy rank for the Yahoo Fantasy games fans. For example, you can try searching for Robinson Cano and view the shortcut in action.

"I hope that you baseball fans find this useful. We've got almost all MLB players (even Aaron bleepin' Boone!). We also plan to roll out the NFL, NBA and NHL as they rotate into season, so stay tuned," Ya-Bing Chu, Product Manager, Yahoo! Search, said.

The Yahoo representative informed us about one more search engine improvement that is now showing images for the queries searching for news. "We've also added images to the News Shortcut. So, if you're searching for Barry Bonds breaking the home run record, for example, you'll now see pictures incorporated with the news results."

As far I can see, the image displayed on the Yahoo SERP for the news results is somehow inspired by Google's search page which shows a somehow similar layout for several types of queries.

In the recent time, Yahoo search has been continuously improved with new shortcuts in a move meant to turn the giant portal's search technology into a real all-in-one search engine. It all started a long time ago when the parent company Yahoo introduced a movie shortcut that allows the users to get valuable information about a certain video in a matter of seconds and straight on the search engine results page.
